This might shock you but…I used to hate strategy, marketing reports, and data analysis.
Sounds crazy now, right?
Especially since I’m all about data and strategy these days. But back then, it felt overwhelming and like a guessing game:
✔️ Were people really reading my emails?
✔️ Was social media just about getting a few likes?
✔️ Were all those hours creating content actually driving sales and bookings?
It felt frustrating to not have answers.
Then one day, it clicked: Data isn’t the enemy—it’s the shortcut to simplifying your marketing and actually getting results.
But not all data matters. The key is knowing which numbers actually help you improve your marketing strategy.
Here’s what you should be tracking:
Email Marketing Metrics
✅ Open Rate → How many people open your emails? If it’s low, your subject lines might need more curiosity, personalisation, or urgency.
✅ Click-Through Rate (CTR) → How many people click on links inside your emails? A low CTR means your content or CTA might not be compelling enough.
✅ Reply Rate → If you send conversational emails (instead of just promotions), are people replying? Engagement boosts email deliverability!
✅ Unsubscribe Rate → If people are unsubscribing frequently, you might be sending too often—or your content isn’t resonating with them.
✅ Conversion Rate → The ultimate measure: How many email readers actually book, buy, or take action?
Social Media Metrics
✅ Likes → A quick indicator of interest, but not the most important metric. Likes don’t always mean people care—they just mean people saw it.
✅ Comments → More valuable than likes! Comments show genuine engagement and signal to social platforms that your content is worth pushing to more people.
✅ Shares → One of the best indicators that your content is valuable. If people are sharing your posts, it means they find them useful or inspiring.
✅ Saves → Super important! Saves show that people want to return to your content later—meaning it’s valuable and worth keeping.
✅ Reach vs. Engagement → Reach tells you how many people see your content, but engagement (likes, comments, shares, saves) tells you if they care.
✅ Story Views & Replies → Are people watching your Instagram Stories all the way through? Are they replying? If not, you might need to make them more engaging.
✅ Profile Visits & Website Clicks → If people check out your profile after seeing your content, that’s a sign they’re interested. The next step? Turning that interest into action.
Website & Sales Metrics
✅ Website Traffic → How many people are visiting your site? Where are they coming from (social media, email, Google)?
✅ Bounce Rate → If people visit your site but leave immediately, your homepage or landing page might not be compelling enough.
✅ Time on Page → The longer people stay on your site, the more engaged they are. Short times could mean your content isn’t holding their attention.
✅ Cart Abandonment Rate → If people add items to their cart but don’t check out, something might be stopping them (extra costs, complicated checkout, lack of trust signals).
✅ Booking Form Completions → If you run a service-based business, how many people start filling out a form vs. how many actually submit it?
The Bottom Line?
If you’re not tracking these numbers, you’re marketing blind.
→ If your posts aren’t converting, check your engagement rates.
→ If your emails aren’t selling, look at open rates & CTRs.
→ If your website isn’t booking clients, analyse your bounce rate & conversions.
